The Accident!!

First I apologize for the gappy-ness of the last blog, I tried to add a video and it screwed up and while i was editing it i got so frustrated i gave up and moved on!Now for the Drama!!!
Thursday night I got a new horse! Grampy came and Dropped Torjo off and brought another horse MidnightWarrior orsomething like that, he needed to take a break from the track. We have re-named him because of this story! Here it goes.I got home from work at 9:30 talked to Nathan as he ate his dinner and I asked if he pulled the hay trailer out of the pasture like I had asked so that the horses wouldn't get into it. He said "no, but I took care of it. Meaning he tightened the tarp that was draped over it. I know how tricky a determined horse can be I decide I better go out and make sure they aren't getting into it. Iwalked out in my jam-ba-jams and flip flops with a flashlight. Sure enough, they are going to town on the hay. So i shew them away and I scared Torjo and he reared up on his haunches, and jumps up on top of the trailer and jumps off the other side.

During this acrobatic show he scraped the front of his back leg. Great! 1st night and I'm breaking my horse already.(and not breaking him the good way if you know horse LINGO) Anyways, I decide to solve the trailer problem i should use the extra panels to build a fence around it to keep them out! after digging through drawers and drawers of tools in thegarage I found the wire cutters because apparently Nathan had wired all the extra panels to the outside fence... with my flashlight placed between my cheek and shoulder I get all the panels separated. That alone was a huge accomplishment I have weak hands and looked like a nerd if anyone could see me! Finally the fence is done and it is time for bed. I noticed they had got into the moldy hay at the end of the trailer so I set alarms to wake up and check on them to make sure they didn't colic through the night. I just knew something bad was gonna happen!
After waking up at 2 and 4 I got up at 5 and Princess is laying down. I walk out there and kick her to see if she is sick or just sleeping, she jumps up and her and Torj take off running but "DEWEY" oddly just stood there. Mind you he should be the more hyper of the 3 being a racer! So i shine my trusty flash light over at him. and GASP!

(oops) picture here

His hind legs are covered in blood. Seriously my heart sank into my stomach. So I go over to check it out and I see a small cuton his booty. I thought maybe he just got into some wire. So I go get the halter to catch him and call my mom in mini panic mode to have her come help me. By now its about 5:30 and Nathan has just left for work.. So mom gets here and I have her hold him and we've called gramps and told him about our sitrch, by thispoint also. Then I push his hip to get him to separate his legs for me so i can clean it off and GASP again

Surprise 3 huge chunks explains the massive amount of blood and he stiffness cause he wasn't using his back leg so I also thought I broke his dang leg!! :) so I ran and grabbed the camera and took some pictures and sped over to grandpa and showed him the wound and he handed me some medicine spray and said take care of it. Its far enough away from his heart I don't think he'll die.. me and mom laugh thinkin' he is joking and he is just as straight faced as ever. I don't know if that really helped or hurt my nervousness! Anyways, it was so hard for Dewey to walk hence the nickname. Walk Hard the Dewey Cox story.!(its a movie Steph) But I am glad to say he is doing much better and it shows in his attitude and energy levels as well as hishealing wounds. He is more of a brat to catch and medicate but it makes me happy knowing he is doing fine. but WHEW. I thought I was going to get my but kicked for breaking grandpa's horsebut he is such a realist. Stuff happens and you just have to deal with it. He told me horses will find a way to get into some kind of trouble in a new place!I'm just glad I got up and had that gut feeling cause I had enough time to get everything taken care of and still make it to work on time at 8:30!
